Black Knights edge Panthers, 7-6
The North Penn-Mansfield Panthers suffered a 7-6 home loss to the Towanda Black Knights on Friday, October 6.

“It was a battle of two teams. A battle until the end,” said Panther head coach Tom Dickinson. “We didn’t make the plays when we needed to. I told the guys to keep their heads up. The defense played their buts off but offensively we need to find a way to score more than six points. We have nothing to be ashamed of, it was a heck of a battle and we have to learn from it and get better.”

Dr. Mayo – The Hippo Trick
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that affects the brain in a variety of ways. First plaques and tangles, cells that destroy and kill our own brain cells, attack our hippocampus. This is where we hold a lot of memories, specifically tied to emotions. When this area is attacked, we typically forget short-term information, like where we put our keys, what we just read, appointments we made. As the plaques and tangles continue their tour, they move towards the front of our brain, the frontal cortex, where language develops, planning, logic, and decision-making happens. As a result, people lose their sense of decisiveness, organizational skills, ability to reason or think through the pros and cons of choices they make. These two areas, the hippocampus and frontal cortex, lose functioning and are considered to cause mild Alzheimer’s disease.

CV boys, Mansfield girls earn pairs of XC wins
The Cowanesque Valley boys and the North Penn-Mansfield girls Cross Country teams each picked up pairs of wins in an NTL tri-meet on Tuesday, October 10.

The race was each team’s final regular season meet.

Mansfield’s girls beat Wellsboro 20-26 and CV 21-36. Wellsboro beat Mansfield 25-33. CV’s Jules Jones won the race in 21:49, Mansfield’s Lauren Ensminger was 2nd in 23:30, Wellsboro’s Anna Bleggi was 3rd in 23:52, Mansfield’s Emma Harris was 4th in 24:09, and Mansfield’s Carmen Bates rounded out the top 5 in 25:25.

In the boys race, CV edged the Hornets 27-28 and beat Mansfield 22-28. Wellsboro beat Mansfield 24-32. CV’s Madden Doud won the race in 18:27, Wellsboro’s Aidan Perry was 2nd in 18:34, Mansfield’s Blake Nelson ran 18:55 for 3rd, Wellsboro’s Connor Brought was 4th in 19:10, and CV’s George Reynolds was 5th in 19:18.

Lady Mounties defeat Lady Hornets, 3-0
Any time North Penn-Liberty and Wellsboro face off on the volleyball court, the fans are in for a treat. Thursday’s game between the two Tioga County rivals did not disappoint as the Lady Mounties swept Wellsboro 3-0 on Thursday, October 12 on their home court.

Thursday’s game was also Senior Night as the Lady Mounties honored Bailey Monks prior to the game.

“I knew it was going to be a tough game,” said Lady Mountie head coach Holli Smith. “Wellsboro always comes back second half really tough. They’re a big rival of ours, we got as prepared as we could and the girls came through for me.”
