Local WWII Hero turns 100
This past Sunday, February 4, 2018, many in the Wellsboro community came together at Wellsboro Bible Church to honor Allen “Oddie” Scranton in celebration of his 100th birthday. Oddie’s official date of birth is February 6, 1918.
Pastor TJ Freeman presided over the celebration stating, “it is our privilege to recognize the fact that God has kept Oddie here for one hundred years.” Much of this birthday celebration centered around being thankful. The people who attended thanked God for Oddie and thanked Oddie for his love for God, his life witness, and his service to our country.
Oddie Allen Scranton faithfully served The United States of America fighting for our freedom in World War II. Pastor TJ also mentioned how the Lord saved Oddie’s soul during a battle in WWII. You can find out more about Oddie, and the suicide mission that changed his life forever by clicking this link here. Oddie’s story is amazing.
Representative Matt Baker blessed Oddie with several gifts of appreciation. He also presented a citation from the House of Representatives honoring Mr. Allen C. Scranton – Oddie – for his service to our country and our community.
Tony Straniere who worked behind the scenes to encourage this event to honor Oddie cut the cake. Many thanked Oddie personally for generously contributing to the wellbeing of others and his service to our country.
During the second half of today’s broadcast, we hear from Oddie himself as he shares the most important lessons that he has learned during his 100 years of life on this earth.
The management and staff of The Home Page Network join the many voices here to wish Oddie a very Happy 100th Birthday.
Special thanks to Oddie’s family, Tony Straniere, Representative Matt Baker, Pastor TJ Freeman and the leadership of Wellsboro Bible Church for making this event possible.
