Laurel Health – Two New Teammates

by Amiee Jones - September 18, 2018

Laurel Health is welcoming two new healthcare providers to their team in the Mansfield area! Both of these professionals will be meeting different needs and purposes for patients, and both come with impressive experience and backgrounds. For sports medicine needs, Dr. Kyle Ungvarksy has recently accepted the position of Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician. In addition, Brittany Wilson will be focusing on preventative medicine as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Each of these additions to the Laurel Health team will provide valuable knowledge and care to the Mansfield area.

Dr. Kyle Ungvarsky grew up in Horseheads, NY, where his family ran a daycare and pre-school program. Living in this environment instilled a mentality of helping others. This concept in conjunction with his natural aptitude for sports led to a natural inclination toward sports medicine. He was able to participate in a BOCES program titled “New Visions”, where he had the opportunity to shadow a variety of types of doctors, including: dietitians, surgeons, pharmacists, and physical therapists. This experience only encouraged his pursuit of medicine, and provided valuable context for which field he was most interested in practicing. Later, he had the chance to intern in Sports Medicine at Michigan State, which of course added to his expertise. He is happy to be back in the general area of where he grew up, practicing close to family and serving the Mansfield area.

Dr. Ungvarsky explains that there are two main areas of Sports Medicine: Family Medicine and Orthopedic. Dr. Ungvarsky practices Family Medicine, as it is the surgery-free option. His goal is to help athletes stay healthy or recover from an injury without needing surgery. He looks forward to personalizing treatment plans and courses of action with patients to help them meet their physical goals. Dr. Ungvarsky incorporates a personal aspect to the way he practices that allows patients to easily relate with him and see that he cares about their progress and health.

Being from Troy, PA, Brittany Wilson is well acquainted with the local area, and is thrilled to be practicing back at home. Participating in local events, such as the Laurel Festival (and even becoming the Laurel Queen), has caused her to feel invested and connected to the surrounding towns and their people.

Medicine has always been a strong interest for Brittany, the questions was just a matter of choosing which avenue of medicine to pursue. She obtained her nursing degree, and began gaining emergency medicine experience as an RN. It was Brittany’s observations in the emergency room that led her to go back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner, bestowing her with the lengthy abbreviation “CRNP”. She noticed that many of the life threatening conditions that came in to the emergency room were the result of preventable conditions that could have been treated previously. Now, with the abilities of an advanced practice nurse, Brittany is able to work with patients to prevent oncoming problems from ever happening.

Dr. Ungvarsky and Brittany Wilson, CRNP are fantastic resources for the Mansfield area. Their proficiency in their fields will meet the needs of many, and create positive changes in the landscape of our local health.
