Laurel Festival 2018 | Part 2

by Lauren Gooch - June 19, 2018

Every year, thousands of people gather in beautiful Wellsboro, Pennsylvania for a weekend full of vendors, music, food, the 10k race, and much more, as we come together to celebrate the beloved Laurel Festival. Today, we are presenting part two of our Laurel Festival highlights, which includes the parade and the Laurel Queen Coronation ceremony.

The parade features everything from music performances to floats of all sizes carrying beautiful queens. Fortunately, the weather this weekend was perfect for all the outdoor happenings, including a unity church service on the Green to end the weekend.

Representing high schools across the state, young women journeyed to Wellsboro to represent their communities and compete in the Laurel Queen pageant. The ceremony began with a welcome from Mark Hamilton, one of our Tioga County Commissioners. Master of Ceremonies, Ken VanSant, introduced each of the candidates and the judges. Next, we heard a message from our 2017 Laurel Festival Queen, Abbey Carleton.

The ten semi-finalists were announced and given their final challenge – the impromptu question and answer portion. Finally, after much anticipation and suspense, the winners were selected. Abby Williams (Miss North Penn-Liberty) was awarded Miss Congeniality, Jolee McCluskey (Miss Central Mountain) was awarded 2nd runner up, Madison Marchese (Miss Williamsport) was awarded 1st runner up, and Katelyn Loss (Miss Montoursville) was crowned our new 2018 Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen!

Home Page would like to congratulate all the Queen candidates for representing their communities so well. A special thank you to The Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director Julie VanNess, Administrative Assistant Sharon Hazelton, Judges Host/Driver, Tara Gordon, the Queen Coordinators – Pat Dean, Debbie Miller, Tara Gordon, Sharon Hazelton, and Jena Miller, and the judges – Oliver Richard Bartlett, Renata Stiehl, Jacob Michaels, and David Cohick. Their hard work is very much appreciated!
