Lady Tigers fall to Lady Panthers

by Ed Weaver - February 7, 2018

The North Penn-Mansfield Lady Tigers dropped a 59-51 NTL Small School Division game at home against Northeast Bradford on Tuesday, February 6.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but eventually NEB battled back to tie it at 7-7. A three-pointer by Jaime Palmer gave Mansfield a 10-7 lead and sparked an 8-0 run to close out the quarter. The Lady Tigers led 18-7 after the first, then increased it to 21-7 on a Lizzi Welch three-pointer early in the second.

That’s when things started to fall apart.

NEB began clawing their way back in the game with two three-pointers from Lauryn Jones and one from Lindsey Moore. Eventually the Lady Panthers tied the game up at 28-28 with under a minute to go, but Mansfield maintained their lead at the half, 31-28.

The third quarter featured multiple lead changes and by the time the quarter ended, both teams were tied at 40 after NEB finished on a 12-9 run. Both teams continued to battle for the lead early in the fourth. NEB eventually pulled away as the Lady Tigers committed foul after foul as the quarter wound down.

NEB went 12-for-15 in the final quarter to outscore Mansfield 19-11 in the final 8 minutes to win 59-51.

Palmer led all scorers on the night with 19 points and Jeanette Montefusco scored 17. Aaliyah Bevacqua (16), Moore (15), and Jones (11) were all in double figures for NEB.

The loss drops the Lady Tigers to 8-11 (6-8 NTL Small School Division). The team has three games left on the year, starting with Sullivan County on the 8th, at Northeast Bradford on the 10th, then against rival Wellsboro on Monday, the 12th
