Lady Mounties fall to Holy Redeemer

Lady Mounties fall to Holy Redeemer

by Ed Weaver - November 8, 2017

North Penn-Liberty’s magical 2017 volleyball season came to an end at the hands of District II champion Holy Redeemer at Athens Area High School on Tuesday, November 7.

Redeemer jumped out to an early 10-6 lead in the first set, but after the nerves wore off for the Lady Mounties, the quickly cut it to 15-13. Redeemer then went on a 10-3 run to win the set, 25-16. Liberty fought back in the second and came out strong. After taking a 7-6 lead, the tide turned and Redeemer went up 15-11 and eventually won 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set was highly contested. Liberty started out with an 11-9 lead, then later retook the lead at 17-16. Redeemer eventually battled back to take a 21-19 lead, but the Lady Mounties erased the two-point deficit to go up 24-23. Unfortunately for the Lady Mounties, they fell 28-26 in the final set.

“We played these guys in the beginning of the year, we scrimmaged them, we actually beat them in the scrimmage,” North Penn-Liberty head coach Holli Smith said. “I saw on video they had gotten better and it was going to be a tough game. I thought my girls brought their A game. They played well, we had a couple moments on our serve receiver, but I have no complaints.”

JoAnne McNamara had 11 assists and six digs, while Brooke Harvey had nine kills and 12 digs for Liberty. Charisma Grega had seven kills and four digs, with two blocks and Savanah Doney had five assists, four digs and three kills. Haley Monks had two kills and a dig.
