Lady Hornets Tennis Team Defeats Towanda!

On Monday, September 29 the Wellsboro Lady Hornets tennis team took first place in their final match of the season. The event started by recognizing the seniors, Shelby Wheeler and Riley Kitchen.

In the first match, Towanda’s Hannah Innocenzo defeated Raisa Rogers in three sets sets 6-3, 2-6, 5-7. Towanda also was victorious in the second match with Katie Christian, beating the Hornets’ Maddy Clemens 0-6, 6-7, 9-11.

The Lady Hornets got back on track, winning the next three games with Shyann Foorman beating Mary Fink in straight sets by a score of 6-3 in both sets. Bailey Corse topped Megan Paulish, 6-0 & 6-2. In the last singles match, Riley Kitchen defeated Courtney Bennett in straight sets with a score of 6- 1 and 6-0.

In the first doubles match, the team of Rogers and Foreman were defeated in straight sets with a score of 0-6 and 5-7. This set up a pivotal second doubles game, with the Hornets team of Maddy Clemens and Bailey Corse. The duo needed to win this game in order to claim the match. Clemens and Corse were victorious, defeating the team of Mary Fink and Megan Paulish from Towanda, 6-1 & 6-2.

The Wellsboro Lady Hornets tennis team will advance to districts.
