Lady Hornets overtake Canton, 65-18

by Ed Weaver - December 11, 2015

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team scored their second win by 45+ points as they downed Canton 65-18 on Thursday, December 10.

Earlier in the week they beat Cowanesque Valley 63-10 and last night’s game was a similar outcome that saw the entire bench get valuable playing time in the second half.

The Lady Hornets dominated every quarter as they led 18-3 after the first quarter, 35-14 at halftime, and 55-17 after the third. Senior Sarah Ingerick was the game’s leading scorer with 16 points. Senior Jada Jackson and sophomore Lizzie Poirier each scored 12 points, and freshman Julia Smith finished with 9, with the majority of those points coming in the fourth quarter.

Rounding out the scoring was junior Jessica Grab with 7 points, freshman Emma Poirier with four, junior Autum Kitajima with three, and junior Janessa Davis with two. Grab led the team with 5 assists and Lizzie Poirier and Ingerick each grabbed 7 rebounds.

The young Lady Hornets won the JV game 41-15 to improve to 3-1 on the year. Emma Poirier led the team with 14 points and Smith pitched in 8.

The Varsity team improves to 3-0 on the year and will be back in action on Saturday, December 12 as they travel to Williamson.
