Kelly continues football career at Lycoming College

by Ed Weaver - May 22,2017

North Penn-Mansfield senior Shane Kelly will continue his football career this fall at Division III Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA.

“I’m very excited,” the NTL Co-Lineman of the Year said Friday. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a young kid, now it’s coming true from all the hard work and dedication I’ve put in with my coaches and family.”

During his career as a Panther, Kelly played in 26 games, recorded 88 tackles, and one sack. In addition to his stats, Kelly was a pre-season All-Star, a District IV North 2nd team All-Star, an NTL 1st team All-Star, a 1st team All-Region selection by the Towanda Daily Review, and an Honorable Mention All-State offensive lineman.

While Kelly will miss playing under the lights on Friday nights, he chose Lycoming due to it’s closeness to home. Lycoming College in Williamsport is 50 miles away from Mansfield, so family and friends can watch him play.

“I like being close and when I visited there I felt at home. I met and got to bond with the team and the coaches are nice.”

“I love it when one of my players chooses to continue football at the next level,” said North Penn-Mansfield head coach Tom Dickinson. “That means we had an impact on him in his career. As a young sophomore we felt he could handle the job of starting and it paid off. He had growing pains, but then became the dominate player we thought he could be.”

Dickinson also offered some advice to Kelly as he prepares for his collegiate career.

“Hang in there during your freshman year, because all the players there were the best at their high school’s and you need to find your place, and make some kind of contribution,” Dickinson noted. “A little as a freshman and each year more and more. Our staff is excited to be able to go on Saturday’s and watch some of our players.”

The Home Page Network would like to congratulate Shane on continuing his football career, and wishes him the best at Lycoming College.
