JP Shaw to play baseball at MU
North Penn-Mansfield senior JP Shaw announced he will continue his baseball career after graduation at Mansfield University in front of family, friends, teammates, coaches, and school officials at North Penn-Mansfield Junior/Senior High School on Wednesday, November 9.
As a junior Shaw helped the Tigers to a District IV championship in Class AA, despite starting the season in Class A, and made a run into the PIAA State playoffs where they came up short against Neumann-Goretti in extra innings.
“It’s pretty cool and I’m excited,” Shaw said of being able to play for his hometown university. “I also have a couple of buddies that play for the team, so it’ll be fun.”
Tigers’ head coach Matt Perry is very excited to see his ace pitcher advance to the next level.
“It’s exciting and it’s why I like coaching to try and get guys to go to the next level. JP’s brought good leadership, he’s very mature, and he’s a leader on and off the field.”
One thing Perry is also looking forward to is being able to see JP play.
“Hopefully me and the other players can go see him play on weekends when he’s pitching at home.”
The Tigers will look to improve upon last season’s District IV championship when they get underway in the Spring.
