Hornet Happenings – Welcome to WAHS!

by Rebecca Hazen - August 25, 2016

Today on Hornet Happenings Principal Mr. Kreger, Janessa Davis and Jessica Smith are welcoming back all returning students and new students. As the new school year is quickly approaching, this episode of Hornet Happenings features a virtual tour of the high school for students in order to ease the transition for those new to high school and to refresh the memory of those returning.

As students and faculty enter the building the main office is directly on the left. The main office is home to Wellsboro High School’s lovely secretaries and Mr. Kreger’s office. The guidance office is directly across from the main office. Located here is the nurse’s station, and guidance counselors Mrs. Harmon and Mr. Rendos’ offices.

Continuing out of the guidance office, students will now be at the main hallway. Along the main hallway is where most science classes and lockers are located; on the right side of this hallway is the computer lab and the business classroom. Off of the main hallway is the math wing. If you proceed down the back stairwell this will take you to the athletic trainer’s office, the girl’s locker room and the boy’s locker room. This hallway also leads to the cafeteria, also known as the Commons, where students eat lunch.

Located near the Commons is the Library Media Center or LMC. The Java Hive, a student run coffee cafe, is located within the LMC where you can purchase drinks and small desserts. When the Java Hive is closed, the LMC has a small coffee bar to purchase from.

Off the right of the cafeteria, and down the hallway, you will find the skills USA section. This is where culinary classes, wood working classes and metal classes take place. When you enter the stairwell and go up the stairs you will have entered the left side of the main hallway. This side of the main hallway is home to the LGI room (where chorus will take place), the band room, FFA classroom, the family and consumer science classroom and the English wing.

If you were to continue up the stairs, you will find the social studies and foreign language wing. The art room is also located here. You can access the main hallway by proceeding down the far stairwell at the back of the wing and continue through the English wing.

Mr. Kreger would like to remind all upperclassmen to pick up their school-issued laptops at any time before the start of the school year. Freshmen students may pick up their laptops beginning at 3 p.m. on August 30th.

Freshmen and new students are encouraged to come tour the high school and meet the teachers and staff during Freshmen and New Student Orientation on August 30th from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Faculty members and students should take note that there will be new parking changes. The Nicholas Street parking lot will now be for the staff and faculty; whereas the administration lot will become parking for the students.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 31.
