NPM Athletes to Continue Careers

Meyer, Johnson to continue athletic careers in college this fall

by Ed Weaver - May 24, 2019

North Penn-Mansfield seniors Dylan Meyer and Nathaniel Johnson announced on Wednesday, May 22 they are continuing their athletic careers this upcoming fall.

Meyer will continue his basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh, Bradford while Johnson is attending Clarks Summit University to play soccer.

Meyer will pursue Environment Studies on Pitt-Bradford. Meyer averaged 17.3 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game this season for the Tigers and finished his career with 796 points, 553 rebounds, 104 steals, 43 assists, and 30 blocks.

“Last year they didn’t do too well so I’m hoping I can turn that around,” Meyer said. “I want to go in there and do all I can to have a winning season.”

Meyer’s head coach Kipper Burleigh is proud of his senior captain’s high school career.

“I am very excited that he has the opportunity to continue playing in college,” Burleigh said. “Dylan had an outstanding senior year. His 55.2% field goal percentage was very impressive considering all of the attention he received in the paint. He was very dominant inside, and simply took over at times, including during our championship win in the NTL Showdown finals. Dylan earned the right to be one of our captains, along with Brent and Jayden. He is a great leader, a fierce competitor, excellent communicator and very mature young man. I wish him all best and know he will do great things.”

Johnson scored 17 goals for the Mounties in 2018 while adding 16 assists. He also saw time in goal, recording 12 saves on 17 opponent shots on goal. Johnson is looking to pick up where he left off at Liberty and bring that to Clarks Summit.

“In all four years of high school I’ve had great coaching and I’m excited to bring that experience to the team,” Johnson said.

“Nathaniel was such an asset because he was like having another coach out on the field,” said North Penn-Liberty boys soccer coach Jim Walker. “It was such a please to coach him.”

The Home Page Network would like to congratulate both Dylan and Nathaniel on continuing their academic and athletic careers.
