Higgins claims 7th STPR Victory

by Home Page Staff - June 5, 2017

The 41st annual Waste Management Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally was held from Friday, June 2 to Saturday, June 3. This year’s event was sanctioned by a new partner, the American Rally Association. Racing teams from across the globe, including locals from Tioga County, gathered on The Green in Wellsboro to begin the weekend on Friday.

The weekend started with a total of 46 participants racing across Waste Management property on Friday and finished on Saturday with the super special stages at the Whitneyville Fairgrounds.

After spending the majority of the weekend trailing behind Subaru teammates Travis Pastrana and Robbie Durant, David Higgins and co-Driver Craig Drew overtook Pastrana late Saturday afternoon.

“It was a tough battle,” said Higgins. “We had to come back from a lot of problems…my boys did well, we got the car sorted…and kept Travis under some pressure.”

Higgins and Drew would continue on to win, marking Higgins 7th STPR victory and his third American Rally Association championship. Travis Pastrana and Robbie Durant placed second overall, with Jeff Seehorn and Karen Jankowski following in third. Following the day’s success Higgins had inspiring words to share.

“The key is…if you want something badly enough, you’ll make it happen,” said Higgins in an interview with Home Page correspondent, Sara Vogt. “That’s what happened for me from the age of 10 years, upwards. I wanted to be racing cars for my living. I never even looked at any other opportunity, that was 100% it. Follow your dreams, live your dreams. Don’t dream about living.”
