Give the Gift of Life

by Sara Vogt - December 23, 2014

Blood – the gift of life. These are crucial days for the local blood supply and all blood types are needed.

Community Blood Banks supply 51% of the blood for hospitals, nationally. The blood they collect stays in the area where it is collected. Today, Home Page Correspondent Drew Patrick talks with National Honor Society representative Elise Becker about the Reunion Drive today at the Wellsboro High School in the old high school gym from 10:30am to 2:30pm. Elise explains that the NHS is a community service organization and their goal is to look for ways to connect with other organizations to benefit the community.

Drew also speaks with Cindy Long, who has been donating blood since high school. She encourages those thinking about donating by reminding them that the benefits of giving blood outweigh the process of those giving. Lives can be saved by your contribution!

As a non-profit organization, the Community Blood Bank is dedicated to guaranteeing a safe, reliable supply of volunteer blood for patients seeking medical services in Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York. There will be many opportunities after New Years to give blood as well. Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital will be holding a blood drive on Monday, January 5 – from noon until 5. Thank you for joining us today on Wellsboro Home Page.

A complete list of donation locations for the new year can be found at www.fourhearts.org.
