Friends Annual Support Campaign
Each year Friends of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital ensure that quality healthcare services are accessible in Tioga County and surrounding communities, both now and in the future.
As part of UPMC Susquehanna, our mission is to extend God’s healing love by improving the health of those we serve. We are dedicated to providing continuous innovation and the highest quality care to restore health and save lives.
As a non-profit health system, we rely on contributions from our community to continue our mission.
Friends of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital share a special commitment to our health system through an annual, tax-deductible membership of $100 or more. Membership funds are used to purchase vital equipment and expand community health programs.
The information above is included in the brochure encouraging us to join and become a friend of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and continue the work that so many of us who live here have started.
This year the funds raised will help to purchase equipment for the rehabilitation services which will benefit the patients they serve. The different pieces that they are requesting are the Biofeedback machine, Physio Touch, Vitalstim Kit and Scifit ISO 7000 Upright Bike.
We spoke with the Director of Rehabilitation Services, Aaron Stephens who shared the team’s desire for more devices called Physio Touch. Presently they have one unit being utilized by the their new practice in Mansfield. “This device has actually been proven to reduce the lymphedema (or swelling) three times faster than just the manual therapy alone.” says Mr. Stephens. “It’s helps reduce costs and frequency of visits for patients…with lymphatic buildup.” When asked what the support from the community meant to him and his team he responded, ” … our job is a service job, we got into it for the purpose of wanting to help other people and to have the community support us in doing that, it’s spectacular.”
We also had the opportunity to find out about the Biofeedback machine from Physical Therapist, Brooke Patt, another piece of equipment on their list. Brooke is in the process of taking advanced women’s health training courses and will be achieving certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in approximately one year. Additionally, these specialists will be able to provide intervention for male patients who have undergone prostate CA treatment and are experiencing incontinence issues. How will biofeedback help her as a therapist? Brooke stated that the machine will help to train pelvic floors giving her and the patient the ability to work together for solutions to their particular situations for treatment. She reinforces that many of the problems in the pelvic floor are treatable.
