Exciting changes coming to our area!
Woodland Park
Woodland Park is about to change for the good! Currently, Woodland Park is made up of picnic pavilions, walking trails, barbecue pits, a playground, a basketball court, horseshoe pits, and passive areas. To get there, turn onto Bryden Street off of East Avenue. Enjoy the tranquility of a wooded setting – quiet lunches, a walk with nature, or just sit back and soak in the sounds – a quiet oasis in the hustle & bustle of life. The Woodland Park Master Plan will make this beautiful park even better. This will be a plan to take Wellsboro into the next forty years. The plan is already funded and a complete exploration regarding the use of the park is about to begin. Pete Harres would like to see these changes truly meet the needs of the community. Accommodations for family reunions are an emphasis of their future plans. There are also 20 acres that are currently not being used.
Packer Pool & Park
This park currently features lighted tennis courts, a basketball court, a picnic pavilion, playground, a community center, volleyball courts, an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool, and passive areas. It is located on Queen Street, one block from downtown Wellsboro. Come beat the heat at the Packer Pool! Daily rates are available as well as individual and family memberships. Senior Citizens are always admitted free! Packer Park is currently the most used park in Wellsboro, but it is aging. The pool at Packer Park is over 40 years old and has developed a number of problems. In the video story above, Harres addresses these problems and gives us a glimpse into Packer Park’s bright future. The possibilities include a water park and MORE FUN for everyone.
Step Outdoors – “where health meets adventure!”
Step Outdoors is a call-to-action campaign designed to encourage awareness, utilization, and appreciation of the outdoor resources, facilities, and programs in-and-around Tioga County. Its purpose is getting people rooted in healthy behaviors. Through the active enjoyment and appreciation of our natural environment, we can improve the health of both ourselves and our communities.
The origin of Step Outdoors is found in a chronic disease prevention approach called Steps to a Healthier US (local initiative: Steps to a Healthier PA, Tioga County). This prevention model seeks to encourage healthy behaviors, such as daily physical activity and good nutritional practices. Steps to a Healthier PA began working with outdoor partners (i.e. PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Wellsboro Parks and Recreation) to encourage use of public outdoor recreational facilities as a means to a more active lifestyle for the whole family, resulting in the “birth” of “Step Outdoors…where health meets adventure!”
