Emergency 101 – Responder AED’s

Emergency responders receive new life saving equipment

by Benton Best, , - February 27, 2018

Research has shown that, during a sudden cardiac arrest, seconds count. Having early access to CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED) can increase chances of survival by as much as 7%-10% every minute.

That’s why Emergency Services in Tioga County, Pennsylvania think it’s so critical that responders have the appropriate training and equipment needed to help save lives during a cardiac arrest.

In 2016, the Tioga County Law Enforcement Association partnered with the Tioga Emergency Management Agency to raise funds to provide every law enforcement vehicle in the County with an AED. Police officers are often on scene before or at the same time as emergency medical responders, so having quick access to an AED could save lives. After receiving generous local donations and a donation from Shell Appalachia, the groups were able to purchase 26 AEDs; enough to outfit every remaining local police vehicle as well as several for state agency vehicles as well.

Today’s broadcast features the presentation of the AED’s to their prospective responders as they share why it’s so important to their service of the community.
