Dickens of a Christmas 2016!

by John Vogt, Sara Vogt - December 5, 2016

On today’s Wellsboro Home Page broadcast we feature some of the unforgettable highlights from Dickens of a Christmas 2016. Thousands of people gathered in downtown Wellsboro for the 33rd annual event. Attendees came from near and far, dressed in their Victorian-time-period best.

This year’s Dickens included a new event, sponsored by Wellsboro Home Page. We called it the “Dickens of a Christmas Best Dressed Contest for 2016.” The idea was designed to encourage more people to dress up in Victorian time period clothing for our annual Dickens event. Over one thousand dollars in cash and prizes was awarded to this year’s winner, Sky DeBockler of Blossburg, PA. This year’s runner-up was a couple, Phil and Lori Stolzfuz of Talmage, PA.

A $25.00 gift certificate from Dunham’s Department Store

$100.00 cash from First Citizens Community Bank
A one-year subscription to Mountain Home Magazine
A Longaberger basket gifted by Marilyn Gillum
A $25.00 gift certificate from Garrisons

There are already ideas in the works for next year’s Dickens of a Christmas Best Dressed Contest to include more cash, more gifts and more winners in several new categories – such as: best dressed couple, best dressed character, best hand made costume, best authentic time period dress and more.

The food for this year’s Dickens was over-the-top wonderful, especially the sticky buns! There was dancing in the streets, special performances by Hamilton-Gibson Productions which included the Dickens’ holiday classic ghost story, A Christmas Carol performed in both Coolidge Theatre and Warehouse Theatre under the direction of Thomas Wells Putnam. There were also street performances presented by Hamilton-Gibson. A huge thanks to Thomas Putnam and all his performers and staff for making each year’s Dickens such a special event.

Dickens Christmas shopping this year was better than ever. However, now the retailers and businesses in Wellsboro are getting ready for the next big regional event titled, CHRISTMAS ON MAIN STREET – taking place during the weekend of December 9th through the 11th. See all of the details on today’s Wellsboro Home Page broadcast feature. Call the Penn Wells Hotel for information at 570-724-2111

A very special thanks to the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce and all the area businesses who worked so hard to make this year’s 33rd annual Dickens of a Christmas a tremendous success.

May the peace of Christ rule and reign in your hearts throughout this Christmas season and always. Thank you for making Wellsboro Home Page your home page. You are greatly appreciated.
