Charles Joseph Griscavage

November 8, 1940 – January 24, 2015 Charles Joseph Griscavage, age 75, of Wellsboro, Pa., continued his walk with the Lord by joining Him on January 24, 2016, after a short illness. He was born on November 8, 1940 in Kulpmont, PA a son of the late Charles and Anna (Plusckowski) Griscavage.

Charlie was a history teacher in the Wellsboro Area School District, retiring after 34 years, a local professional painter and a longtime member of both St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Tyoga Country Club. He enjoyed golf, poker, and pursuing his great passion of coaching in several sports, especially as a longtime coach with the Wellsboro Boys’ Basketball Program. Charlie was a wonderful Husband, Father and Pop Pop. Known as “Sr.” or “Coach” by many, his presence in the Wellsboro community will be greatly missed. He will always be deeply loved by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, along with son Charles (Jennifer) of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and daughters Susan Kowalski of New Cumberland, Pa., Deborah Donahue of Lantana Fl. and Lisa (Michael) Pietropola of Wellsboro, Pa., two step-sons Timothy Wilkinson (Tonya) of Wellsboro, Pa. and Michael (Kerry) Wilkinson of Parker, Co., 12 grandchildren, very special nephew, Daniel Yastishak, and a sister, Charlotte. He was preceded in death by a sister and grandson.

In keeping with his wishes, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Wellsboro Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team (in care of Todd Outman at the Rock L. Butler Middle School 9 Nichols St, Wellsboro), Samaritan House, (in care of St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 47 Central Ave, Wellsboro), or the Wellsboro Food Pantry (PO Box 547, Wellsboro).

Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016, from 6 to 8 PM at the Carleton Funeral Home, Wellsboro, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 10:00 AM, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Wellsboro, PA with Rev. David Bechtel officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Wellsboro, PA.
