Chamber Highlights – Weekend & Dickens!

by Chloe Quimby - November 18, 2015

Another whirlwind of local events are about to hit the calendar. Throughout the holiday season, Wellsboro has many diversions to offer—you’re sure to find something that appeals no matter what your interests.
Tomorrow, November 19th, DCNR volunteer, Daryl Warren will be leading a Rails-to-Trails walk starting at the Tioga Junction trailhead near Pag-Omar. The hike will be appropriate for those aged preschool and up, so those of all athletic abilities are welcome to enjoy the outdoors—before the weather turns colder. They’ll be departing from the trailhead at 10:00 AM.

Over the weekend, November 19th-22nd, Hamilton-Gibson will be presenting “The Honky Tonk Angels Holiday Spectacular.” Thursday-Saturday the show is held at 7:30pm, while the Sunday showing is at 2:30pm. Admission is $18 for adults, $7 for students Thursday and Friday; Saturday admission drops to $12 for adults, free for students; and Sunday is “Pay What You Can.” However, 2009’s prequel production was exceedingly popular, so make your reservations in advance! See their website for details: http://www.hamiltongibson.org/

The Fifth Season hosts their Holiday Open House the same weekend (November 20th-22nd), sure to be a “magical holiday shopping experience” complete with raffles and refreshments. Other downtown Wellsboro merchants will be hosting their own open house events November 20th and 21st, so stop in anywhere along Main Street for holiday cheer and great sales. Also, Black Friday weekend (November 27th and 28th) The Fifth Season Boutique has more sale opportunities for savvy shoppers, so check out their website for more information: http://thefifthseason.biz/

If you’d rather be on the music and dance scene, the Cherry Flats Ridge Pluckers are opening their 2015-2016 contra dancing season on Saturday, November 21st. The dance starts at 7:30pm, but beginners to contra are encouraged to come at 7:00pm for extra tutelage.

November 22nd, Sunday, the Penn Wells will hold a Sunday Brunch buffet in the Mary Wells Room 9:00am-1:30pm, complete with live music from 10:00am-1:00pm. Entertainment will be provided by Take Two, a string duet with musicians Stephen Ziemak and Robert Rubin. The brunch is $15.95 for adults and $8.95 for children 3-10. Children under 3 eat for free.

Getting into December, there are a plethora of performances to attend. Wednesday, December 2nd, Storyteller Donald Davis will share tales from his rich, southern Appalachian heritage. You can join him at the Coolidge Theatre in the Deane Center at 7:30pm for an artistic treat.

You can also save the date for Hamilton-Gibson’s Christmas performances. Dickens of a Concert will be held, Friday, December 4th at St. Peter’s Church. Hamilton-Gibson is additionally performing A Christmas Carol on Saturday and Sunday, December 5th and 6th, in conjunction with the Dicken’s of a Christmas festival on Wellsboro Main Street.

And finally, Hamilton-Gibson’s Messiah Community Sing is Sunday, December 13th at St. Paul’s Episcopalian Church in Wellsboro.

Don’t let the gray weather get you down—there’s plenty shakin’ in Wellsboro.
