Casey’s Legacy – The Game!
Today on Wellsboro Home Page we broadcast the highlights from this past Saturday’s 4th annual Casey L. Patrick Memorial Basketball Game (CLPBG). This event is a special benefit played by the Wellsboro School District faculty and students from the boys and girls basketball teams. The faculty won the first year followed by two straight victories from the students. This past Saturday the faculty prevailed bringing the overall record to a tie at two games each. Next year should be a sight to see with the faculty getting a little older but wiser and the students performing with their youthful speed.
During this year’s game the students won the opening tip-off leading to a early 3 pointer. Mr. Mayo answered quickly with 2. Ms. Miller gets a big block later in the first quarter; that’s fun to watch. And the faculty used their famous cherry picking play to rack up another 2 points.
Then Jake Singer helped lead the students on a big run with a 3 pointer and Mrs. West scores the first points of her CLPBG career. Regan Rogers came up with another great block to close the quarter.
There was a very awkward moment in the game when Kieron Smethers stuns the entire building with a lonesome dunk while both teams get caught standing on the wrong side of the court. Apparently Coach Outman was told that it was, “teachers ball”. LOL! Nonetheless, the faculty led by 1 point going into half-time.
During the half time festivities Brooklyn Chereko dazzled the crowd as she hit two baskets in the 50/50 foul shot competition. However but the match was won by Brandon Tuttle who hit 5 straight baskets from the foul line. Brandon promptly donated his winnings back to the Casey L. Patrick Scholarship Fund.
You will have to watch the highlights above to see all the fun that took place during the second half. It’s hard to put into words. You really have to see it to believe it! The students made a valiant effort to come back but when it was all over the teachers came out victorious with a score of 94-88.
The total funds raised so far for this years CLPBG fundraiser totals $3,558.00 But, you can still give by making checks payable to Casey L. Patrick Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mail your donation to Trust & Investments 90-92 Main Street, PO Box 58, Wellsboro, PA 16901. If you need help, contact Mary Wood at the C&N Trust Department by calling 1-800-487-8784. Proceeds go to benefit the Casey L. Patrick Memorial Scholarship Fund. Let’s try to break $4,000.00! Thanks!
