Bank On It: Ju$t for Kid$

by C&N Bank - September 5, 2017

Did you know that children as young as three years old can grasp financial concepts like saving and spending? Furthermore, a report by researchers at the University of Cambridge revealed that kids’ money habits are formed by age 7.

Financial skills are so important to navigating life and, at Citizens & Northern Bank, we want to be a resource for kids and their parents to learn these skills that will prepare them for fiscal success.

What does C&N do to help kids learn about money and saving?
As your bank for a lifetime, it’s our responsibility to reach out to our communities and give young people the tools and inspiration for a successful financial future. One way we’ve done that is by recently updating and reintroducing my Ju$t for Kid$ Club. It’s a savings club for children age 12 and under that makes learning about money fun and interactive. As the club spokesbug, I love to encourage children to develop smart saving habits, teach them important financial lessons and bring some fun to the program.

Why did C&N update this program?
We wanted to put a greater focus on education while keeping the program fun and engaging for the kids. The goal of the club is to help the youth in our area develop smart money habits that will help them in their future. In the long-run, it will benefit our communities because our local youth will grow up to be more financially secure and responsible citizens

What are some of the recent changes to your Ju$t for Kid$ Club?
Most of the updates were to make the program more interactive, like bringing back our Ju$t for Kid$ newsletters. As part of that, we’ve added a secret page to our website where, with their parents help, they can complete an activity that goes along with the theme of the newsletter. You’ll see exclusive events and activities as well. For instance, in September, we’re inviting kids to color a picture of me and bring it into their local branch for a special surprise. We’ve also added rewards to encourage kids to save and reach their goals.

What are your future plans for the program?
I’m very excited about the new features and benefits my new club offers for my friends. We look forward to growing it, enhancing it and adding even more to it in the future. Right now, we’re just building out the framework and are excited to discover where we can take it next!

We all know how important it is for kids to develop the knowledge and tools they need to make better, well-informed decisions throughout their financial lives. Plus, I make it fun! So keep an eye out for me – I like to make surprise visits in the least expected places – and stop in for a visit with your local branch team to join the Ju$t for Kid$ Club today.
