2018 Youth Leaders of Tomorrow
A group of impressive student leaders were celebrated on Monday night, at the Southern Tioga School District’s “Youth Leader Banquet”. Nineteen students from New Covenant Academy, North Penn-Liberty, and North Penn-Mansfield came together to be recognized for their positive influence and accomplishments. At the end of the night, certificates and citations were given out to the eligible leaders. And, one leader from each school was announced as winner, with one of these students being named winner over all of the Southern Tioga School District. Winners were awarded a beautiful plaque, in addition to a scholarship to help toward their future education.
The Youth Leader Banquet is an annual event, facilitated by the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce. Businesses of the surrounding communities supplied all of the details of the event. Photos of the eligible leaders were taken by Bruce Dart and displayed around the room. Special Occasions Florist provided centerpieces, and Cast & Crew made the dinner. Other donors include: Buckheit Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Citizens & Northern, Mansfield First Heritage Credit Union, Gramma’s Kitchen, Mansfield Kiwanis Club, Mansfield Lions Club, Mansfield VFW, Matthew’s Motors, Northwest Savings Bank, Mansfield Partners in Progress, and Waupaca Foundry.
The Mayor of Blossburg, Shane Nickerson, served as the keynote speaker of the night, delivering a meaningful message for the student leaders. He urged the soon-to-be graduates to learn the importance of listening when in leadership roles. He also encouraged them to learn the art of gratitude. Perhaps the strongest statement of the Mayors address came at the end when he pointed out the importance of strong, equipped young leaders to come back to the local area and put their skills and talents to use in their home environment. Mr. Nickerson challenged the students with the thought that they happiness is a choice, not a location, and the Southern Tioga area could benefit greatly from such driven and capable young people.
As the night went on, those in attendance had the opportunity to hear about each student leader’s future plans, as well as some personal thoughts and interests. After the recognition of these remarkable students, the winners were announced.
David Allen from New Covenant Academy.
Jonathan Nelson from North Penn-Liberty.
And, the night’s over all winner, as well as for North Penn -Mansfield Blake Nelson.
The young men were grateful for the experience and honor of their awards, each with impressive future plans.
After the banquet, Chamber Representative, Dawn Hull, commented on the success of the night. She mentioned the importance of the community coming together to provide events such as this. She also remarked of the difficulty in choosing the winners, as she served on the Youth Leader Committee. However, Dawn spoke to the importance of creating a place for all of these young leaders, and listening to their ideas. After all, they are the future, and they have significant value to offer, even now.
The Youth Leader Banquet was an encouraging testament to the bright spots in our world. These students are an outstanding group of young people, with bright aspirations and futures, and who have already contributed and accomplished so much.
